How it works

All tickets have equal chances and winners are drawn without replacement. You may own multiple tickets and win more than once. The result is the chance that at least one of your tickets wins.

The model does not cover weighted entries, judging, disqualifications, replacement draws or rules limiting each person to one prize.

P(at least one win) = 1 − C(N − k, w) ÷ C(N, w)

One winner versus several winners

With 1 ticket among 120 and one prize, the chance is 1/120 ≈ 0.83%; the printed ticket number does not matter. With 10 tickets among 100 and three winning tickets, the chance of at least one win is about 27.35%, not 30%. Expected winning tickets is 0.3, a different measure.
