How it works

Keno draws 20 numbers from 80; you mark a handful of spots and win by matching as many as you can. The chance of matching exactly m of your picks follows the hypergeometric distribution — the same math as a lottery draw.

Matching all your spots is extremely unlikely, which is why keno carries one of the highest house edges in the casino once the (game-specific) pay table is applied. This calculator shows the true probability of every number of hits; the payouts depend on the venue.

P(m) = C(20,m)·C(60,k−m) / C(80,k)

Keno Odds Calculator

Keno draws 20 numbers from 80, and you win by matching the spots you picked. This free keno odds calculator gives the exact probability of hitting any number of your spots, using the hypergeometric distribution — the same math behind a lottery draw.

How keno odds are calculated

Pick k spots and the chance of matching exactly m of them is C(20,m) × C(60,k−m) ÷ C(80,k): the ways to hit m of the 20 drawn numbers, times the ways your remaining picks miss, over all ways to choose your spots. This is the hypergeometric distribution, identical to lottery and bingo math.

The calculator also gives the cumulative chance of matching that many or more, and the odds as a 1-in-N figure, for any number of spots from 1 to 15.

Why keno is a tough game

Catching all your spots is wildly unlikely — hitting all 10 on a 10-spot ticket is roughly a 1-in-9-million shot. Pay tables reward the big catches, but never enough to offset how rare they are, which is why keno carries one of the highest house edges in the casino, often 20–35%.

The probabilities here are fixed by the math; the payouts vary by venue, so check the pay table to judge a specific ticket. The odds of hitting, however, are the same everywhere.

FAQ
What are the odds of winning keno?expand_more

They depend on how many spots you pick. Matching exactly m of k spots is C(20,m)·C(60,k−m)/C(80,k); hitting all 10 on a 10-spot ticket is about 1 in 8.9 million.

How does the keno calculator work?expand_more

It uses the hypergeometric distribution for a standard 80-number, 20-draw game to give the exact probability of matching any number of your chosen spots.

Why does keno have such a high house edge?expand_more

Because the big catches are extremely rare and the pay tables do not fully reward them. House edges of 20–35% are common, far higher than table games.
